As a Cuban I am speaking out in favor of the right that human beings have to receive assistance in fighting this dangerous pandemic with its increasingly aggressive new strains. The U.S. Embargo has limited us for many years but today it kills us. This embargo is part of a strategy to overthrow the Cuban government for the private interests and ambition of a few lackeys. In an attempt to increase pressure on the government and finally overthrow it, these lackeys are suffocating my people without mercy or sentiment. Therefore, knowing the reality that many are unaware of and others ignore, I strongly pronounce myself in favor of my people. The best way that I can support my people at this time is to be able to provide humanitarian aid to my city, Santiago de Cuba. Of course this will not solve everything, but every bit of relief makes a difference. For this reason I am requesting donations to help my people in Cuba. They need medicine, sheets, gloves, masks and other resources to support the centers that are established to help save people from COVID-19. The hospitals are saturated and the government has had to create centers to treat those who are contagious. I call on any institutions, and regular (or extraordinary) people who support my country and my people to step forward. And of course, as an artist, I call on other artists to join this action. The struggle is real! ~ Danys Pérez Prades "La Mora", Founding Director of Oyu Oro Afro Cuban Experimental Dance Ensemble, New York and Santiago de Cuba.
